Prayer and Salvation
The question is how prayer can lead one to falah (salvation, success, prosperity).
In the Holy Quran, the word falah has been mentioned in different forms. For example, Surah Al-Muminun begins with this verse: “Prosperous are the believers.”
In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 5, God introduces the believers by saying: “These are guided by their Lord; these surely are the prosperous.” Or in Surah Taha, verse 64, we read: “Gather your guile and then lineup a rank those who gain the upper hand today shall indeed prosper.”
Everyone is searching for prosperity and happiness in life and no one can be found who is not like that. In order to reach happiness, one should surmount the obstacle in the path and when he does reach happiness, the word falah is used about him or her.
The ultimate goal of mankind and his salvation lies in nearness to God and the path to achieving that is through obeying God. But the necessities of the worldly life sometimes impede his path and prevent him from getting closer to God.
So God has created us to achieve salvation but there are problems and difficulties in the path. The best thing that can help us overcome these problems and obstacles is the remembrance of God, which is best manifested in Salalt (prayer). That is to say, prayer can save us from impurities and worldly things and from Satan’s bondage and lead us to the main path of human life, which is the path of spiritual perfection.
Prayer is the best form in which Dhikr (remembrance of God) is manifested, helps mankind to grow spiritually and keeps him away from evil and bad things.
God says in verse 29 of Surah Al-Ankabut: “Prayer forbids indecency and dishonor. The remembrance of Allah is greater, and Allah knows what you do.”
God also tells Prophet Moses (AS): “…and establish the prayer of My remembrance.” (Surah Taha, verse 14)
