TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Dar-ol-Quran Center affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine plans to organize two international Quran competitions, the center’s director said.

Sheikh Khayruddin Ali al-Hadi

Sheikh Khayruddin Ali al-Hadi told IQNA during a visit to the news agency’s headquarters in Tehran that one of the planned events is the Karbala international Holy Quran award.

The other one is a Quran competition among countries in which there are Shia holy shrines, he said.

Countries like Iran, Syria and Afghanistan will be invited to the contest, which is planned to be held in few months from now, he stated.

Al-Hadi further referred to other activities of the center, saying that since it was established 14 years ago, it has been on the path of growth and development of programs with the support of the custodian of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalayi.

He added that several committees have been set up at the center to help more efficiently implement the programs in different fields such as Quran teaching, Quran printing, academic programs, arts, and information dissemination.

One of the programs launched by the center was a project to train 1,000 memorizers of the Quran that surpassed its original objective as nearly 2,000 individuals have learned the Holy Book by heart by taking part in the program, according to the cleric.

He also noted that the center has launched branches in other countries such as Iran, Indonesia, Syria, Lebanon, as well as a number of other countries in Africa, Southeast Asia and Europe.
