IQNA – The Leader of the Islamic Revolution says Iran’s response to the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus will make the regime rue its crime.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei released a message on Tuesday, reacting to the Israeli airstrikes that destroyed Iran's consulate building in Damascus and killed seven military advisors of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps named Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force and his deputy General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi as among the martyrs of the terrorist attack.

May God’s peace and mercy rest upon the martyrs of this incident, Ayatollah Khamenei said.

“General Zahedi, who has been on the frontlines of danger and struggle since the sixties [Iran-Iraq war], was eyeing martyrdom,” he said, adding, “Their departure is not a loss for them, as they have received their divine reward, however, their absence is deeply felt by the Iranian nation, particularly by those who knew them personally.”

“Our brave men will ensure that the malevolent regime faces justice. We will make them rue this crime and others of its kind, God willing,” he stressed.

Earlier, Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi also slammed the Israeli aggression as a “flagrant violation of international regulations.”

"After repeated defeats and failures in the face of the faith and will of the Resistance Front fighters, the Zionist regime has put indiscriminate assassinations on its agenda in the struggle to save itself, but it should know that it will never achieve its sinister goals with such inhumane actions,” he said.

“Day by day, the Israeli regime will witness the strengthening of the resistance front and the disgust and hatred of free nations towards its own illegitimate nature. This cowardly crime will not go unanswered."
