According to the organizers, 74 Quran memorizers from different countries will be attending this year’s contest, which has been named after late qari Mohammad Sidiq Minshawi, Youm7.com website reported.
The panel of arbiters comprises twelve Quran experts from Egypt and number of other countries.
Winners will receive cash prizes totaling 1.1 million Egyptian pounds.
The international competition will run until Wednesday, December 15.
It has four categories, namely memorization of entire Quran for speakers of Arabic (maximum age: 35), memorization of entire Quran for non-Arabic speakers (maximum age: 30), memorization of entire Quran for people with special needs (maximum age: 30), and memorization of entire Quran for children (maximum age: 12).
The two last categories are for Egyptian nationals only.
