Ayatollah Taskhiri Considered Boosting Unity A Historic Mission, Lebanese Cleric Says

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Sheikh Maher Hamoud, a Lebanese scholar and secretary general of the World Union of Resistance Scholars, said late Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri would always emphasize the importance of strengthening unity.

Harbingers of Peace and Islamic Unity forum

 

Sheikh Hamoud made the remark in a message to an international forum on the life, views and thoughts of Ayatollah Taskhiri.

Part of a series dubbed “Harbingers of Peace and Islamic Unity”, the virtual forum was held Wednesday morning by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST) and the Islamic Development Organization’s Humanities and Cultural Studies Research Center.

Sheikh Hamoud added that Ayatollah Taskhiri considered striving to promote Islamic unity as a historical mission.

“He sought to create and enhance Islamic unity and proximity in various parts of the world,” he stated.

The Lebanese cleric added that Ayatollah Taskhiri never stopped his struggle to promote proximity despite all challenges and continued on that path with steadfastness and sincerity.

Syrian Awqaf Minister Mohammed Abdul Sattar also sent a message to the forum, stressing that Ayatollah Taskhiri was among the harbingers of unity.

He also laid emphasis on the issue of Palestine and resistance and believed that the mission of Islam is saving mankind and establishing justice, the Syrian official added.  

Ayatollah Taskhiri died of a heart attack in August 2020 at the age of 76.

A renowned religious figure in the Muslim world, Ayatollah Taskhiri also served as head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization and advisor to the Leader on Muslim world affairs.

During the time he served as secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, he made great efforts towards reinforcing unity among Muslims.

He wrote and translated tens of books on Islam and the Muslim world.
