TEHRAN (IQNA) – A unique handwritten Quran weighing over 30 kilos and made on ivory pages is on display at the 42nd Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF).

The creator of the Quran, Jaleena, is a 46-year-old woman from Kerala, India, who learned calligraphy from scratch and spent more than a year completing the project.

She says that writing the Quran was her way of fulfilling her desire to memorize the Holy Book, Emirati media reported on Sunday.

Jaleena, who used to work in a rubber plantation and teach Urdu to school children, has received recognition from the Arabian World Records and the India and Asia Book of Records for her artistic achievement.

She says that she is overwhelmed by the positive feedback and appreciation from the visitors at the SIBF, where she is exhibiting the Quran in Hall 7 of the Sharjah Expo Centre until November 12.

The book measures 28.5 x 22.5 x 4.5 inches and weighs 54 kg with the cover. Jaleena says that she is not willing to sell the Quran as it is priceless for her and her family.
