Tanzanian Shia Muslims Celebrate Mid-Shaaban Eid

IQNA – Shia Muslims in Tanzania has begun celebrating the Mid-Shaaban Eid, marking the birth anniversary of Imam Zaman (may God hasten his glad advent).

Various Shia centers in the African country celebrate the auspicious occasion every year.

The ceremonies marking the occasion include religious speeches, competition, eulogy recitation sand and forums, according to the Iranian Cultural Center in Tanzania.

Prominent orators from other countries, especially English-speaking countries, are invited to deliver speeches at the programs.

One such celebration was held at Al-Mahdi Islamic Center in the capital Dar es Salaam.

It was attended by the Iranian ambassador and cultural attaché, representative of Al-Mustafa International University and a number of Iranians residing in Tanzania.

This year, the 15th day of the lunar Hijri month of Shaaban, known as Mid-Shaaban, falls on Sunday, February 25.

Tanzania is a country in East Africa where Islam is the religion of about 35 percent of the population.

On the mainland, Muslim communities are concentrated in coastal areas, with some large Muslim majorities also in inland urban areas especially and along the former caravan routes. More than 99 percent of the population of the Zanzibar archipelago is Muslim.
