IQNA – The Palestinian Muslim community in Gaza remains resolute in observing Ramadan traditions, gathering in the remnants of mosques decimated by the Israeli bombs.

Despite over 1,000 mosques being reduced to ruins since October 7 as a result of relentless Israeli strikes on the besieged strip, the faithful continue to practice their religion with unwavering commitment.

The al-Faruq mosque in Rafah, established in 1952 and recently demolished in an airstrike, has become a symbol of perseverance.

Once a grand structure boasting a library and a prayer hall that could host over 1,500 devotees, it now serves as a modest sanctuary amidst the debris, Al Jazeera reported on Saturday.

As the sacred month of Ramadan approaches, Gazans are steadfast in their resolve to maintain communal worship. The Friday congregational prayers have seen an influx of believers undeterred by the destruction.

One member emphasized the continuity of worship at the site, stating, "Prayers have never ceased in this mosque; it was targeted by the Israelis at night and without a warning."

He further declared, "We are adamant to keep the call for prayers out loud," underscoring the effort to clear a small area within the mosque's extensive grounds to carry on with their prayers.

The community's determination is palpable as they adapt to the constrained conditions, with the official adding, "We will continue to offer prayers even on the roads and on the ruins."

Another worshipper expressed the sentiment that the limited space serves to preserve their spiritual practices. With hope for peace and restoration, he shared, "It is the central mosque where worshippers from many surrounding areas flock to offer their prayers."

The brutal Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed nearly 31,000 people, most of them women and children.

The military aggression has also internally displaced 85% of the 2.3 mililon population of Gaza, according to the United Nations figures.
