Bint Maktoum Quran Contest Begins in UAE

IQNA – The 24th edition of the Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Holy Quran competition in the United Arab Emirates got underway Saturday evening.

The Quran competition is being held in Dubai in two separate locations for men and women.

Addressing the opening ceremony, head of the panel of arbiters, Ibrahim Jassim al-Mansouri, lauded the elevation of the competition’s level in the 24th edition, saying it was the outcome of development of Quran memorization centers and local Quran contests.

He said that nearly a quarter of a century has passed since the competition on memorization of the Quran began and today it has reached a good level in terms of quality and quantity.

He also called on members of the panel of judges to observe fairness and precision in their evaluation of the contestants’ performances.

On the first day of the competition, seven contenders in the men’s section and seven in the women’s section took the stage to showcase their talents and skills.

The competition will run through January 13 and the closing ceremony in which winners will be announced an awarded is slated for January 16 for the men’s section and January 17 for the women’s section.

It consists of six categories: memorization of the entire Quran, memorization of 20 Juzes (parts), memorization of 10 Juzes, memorization of 5 Juzes (open to citizens only), memorization of 5 Juzes (for residents below 10 years old), and memorization of 3 Juzes (for citizens below 10 years old).

The Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Holy Quran competition is annually organized by the Dubai International Holy Quran Award with the aim of honoring Quran memorizers, especially women.
