IQNA – Winners of the 3rd edition of the Meshkat International Quran Competition were named and awarded at the closing ceremony Saturday night.

The ceremony was held in Tehran with the participation of a number of religious and Quranic officials and figures.

The winners of this edition were Hamidollah Fayazi from Afghanistan, Shamsuri Abdullah from Indonesia and Ali Zakeri from Iran.

The competition is open to applicants from all over the world.

Hojat-ol-Islam Mojtaba Mohammadi, the director of the Meshkat Institute, said at the awarding ceremony that this edition was held virtually.

He said the 3rd edition saw the participation of 1,100 qaris from 31 countries.

A panel of experts including Abbas Emamjome, Mehdi Qarasheikhlu, Mohammad Hossein Sabzali, Hamid Reza Ahmadivafa, Ahmed al-Badri and Abrar al-Hussain judged the performances of the contenders and chose the top winners, he noted.

The contestants were required to imitate one of the four selected recitations by renowned Qaris: Sheikh Mohamed Siddiq El-Minshawi, Sheikh Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, Sheikh Shahat Muhammad Anwar, and Sheikh Mustafa Ismail.
